Adam's thoughts on death

Adam is watching a cartoon show for children in which the Grim Reaper is one of the major characters. Adam says it's called "The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy". Adam says that when you die, the Grim Reaper sucks up your soul and puts it in his skeleton tummy. I hope Adam knows that this is make-believe.

Adam says that when he dies, he wants to be buried with his favorite toy, a Cobra action figure. (Apparently, Cobra is one of Spiderman's enemies.) We told Adam that Mommy and Daddy will probably die before he does, so that he will need to tell someone else after we are gone.

Adam says that Jesus didn't rise from the dead because...

...that would make Jesus a zombie, and everybody knows that zombies are make-believe.

Adam: Daddy is a geek.
Mommy: Yes, Daddy is a geek, but how do you know?
Adam: Because Daddy isn't cool. I want to be cool. I don't want to be a geek like Daddy.

OMG I LOVE his Jesus-reasoning. That's brilliant! Tell him that at least one person thinks he's very smart for his age. :)

Don't worry, Adam, we're working on that geek thing. By the time you're old enough to worry about it, we'll have it fixed.

I've always taught my kids that "weird" is a complement. Geek is right up there too.

I saw your post right after Bill Roper's on my flist, and initially read "The Grim Reaper" as ...

Wasn't Jesus a vampire? He rose from the dead, people drink his blood, and he has an aversion to crosses.

So have I. Pretty successfully, I think, at least with the older one. Jury's still out on the teenager.
